Let's talk about it: Immigration, Activism & Sh**hole Countries

While many people were shocked by President Trump’s remarks last week, others see this as just one instance in a larger pattern of crude, dehumanizing and racist language used to describe migrants and asylum seekers. It’s a pattern that is rapidly becoming more mainstream and one that has much deeper roots in this country than many care to admit.

Join us for an interactive discussion about the role that race and racism has historically played in United States immigration policy and what this means for us today. Together, we will explore what biases we hold as individuals and as a community, and what we can do to be better advocates, allies and activists around this important issue!

about the program

“I believe we can change the world if we start listening to one another again. Simple, honest, human conversation.” Margaret J. Wheatley

Do you have a safe space to talk about how racism and sexism impact you and the people you care about?

As a nation, we’ve experienced horrific events within the last year that have forced us to acknowledge that sexism and racism are very much ingrained in our society. From white nationalists marching in Charlottesville, VA to Hollywood’s sexual abuse victims finding their voice, men and women across the country are starting to engage in conversations about injustices faced by many women and people of color in our country.

Let’s Talk About It is a guided conversation series that invites men and women in Central Ohio to explore current events in news and popular culture from a social justice lens. We’ll discuss practical approaches to advocacy, ally ship and solidarity that you can begin to use in your everyday life.
