About Activists and Agitators

YWCA Columbus is on a mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We believe that every person deserves to be treated with dignity; as a fellow human being entitled to respect and resources, caring and understanding. We defy a status quo that puts women, people of color, and the underprivileged on uneven footing. Activists and Agitators is an evening fundraiser dedicated to uniting the Columbus community, inspiring attendees to pursue greater social change than we can achieve alone. At Activists and Agitators, we’ll foster dialogue, provide practical resources and educate the community on how to promote empowerment and inclusion.

All funds raised at Activists and Agitators go toward two leadership programs: Leadership for Social Change, which empowers women at the beginning of their careers, and Bright Futures, a program that will provide leadership, confidence building, and empowerment training to teen girls in some of the most under-resourced neighborhoods in Columbus. Together, we can initiate systematic social change that will create a Columbus of peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

We are in the process of securing a national speaker as the keynote, as well as local organizations to highlight for their social justice work. Last year, Cleo Wade was our keynote speaker for Activists and Agitators, and last year’s local speakers included: The Matriots, a nonpartisan political action committee, and the Maroon Arts Group, a collective of creatives who have galvanized to develop and provide a platform for conscious art centered around the preservation and promotion of cultures of African descent.
