Ibram X. Kendi by Stephen Voss

June 22, 2023 (COLUMBUS, OH) – Last night, YWCA Columbus announced that Ibram X. Kendi will be speaking at its Oct. 19 Activists and Agitators event about antiracism, education, and his recent work to make history accessible to all ages.

“Dr. Kendi is well-known for his research and activism around systemic racism, and we are thrilled he will be sharing his insights with our audience in Central Ohio this fall,” said Elizabeth Brown, president and CEO of YWCA Columbus.

Ibram Xolani Kendi is an American author, professor, anti-racist activist, and historian of race and discriminatory policy in America.

On Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, YWCA Columbus will host its 6th annual Activists and Agitators at the Southern Theatre, focusing – this year – on antiracism in the system of education

“Schools have historically been a battleground for civil rights and unfortunately this continues to hold true today with the issues we’re seeing nationally around LGBTQ+ rights and the erasure of our nation’s history,” said Brown. “As an organization dedicated to eliminating racism and rooted in peace, freedom, justice, and dignity for all, we have a vested interest in ensuring that all youth, particularly students of color and LGBTQ+ students, are taught truth in schools and given equitable opportunities to succeed.”

In addition to Dr. Kendi, Activists and Agitators 2023 will feature local artists and a solutions-oriented conversation with youth, local experts and community organizers.
