For currently enrolled parents:
AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO FALL PARENTS:
Dear YWCA Kids Place Parents and Guardians –
Thank you again for your patience as we have worked behind the scenes to quickly open YWCA Kids Place programs for the YKP Fall Session. We want to continue our regular updates to you. Our next update will be Friday, August 14, 2020.
Here is the latest information we can share:
Gahanna – The Gahanna YKP program will be held at Mifflin Presbyterian Church, located at 123 Granville Street, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. This will be a familiar location, as it was the site of our summer program!
Westerville – The Westerville YKP Program will be held at the Westerville Community United Church of Christ, located at 770 County Line Road West, Westerville, Ohio 43081. This is a new location, but it is right across the street from Robert Frost Elementary School.
As previously mentioned, our administrative team is working on ensuring that both sites are licensed and ready to open. We are anticipating program registration beginning on Monday, August 17, 2020.
Please plan ahead to make sure the following supplies are brought to the program every day in a book bag labeled with your child’s name:
- Healthy lunch (that requires no refrigeration and has food items that can be opened by your child without the assistance of a staff person)
- Laptop/Chromebook (charged and ready for use) and all other materials needed to complete their school assignments
- Water bottle
- PLEASE make sure everything your child brings is labeled with a name
HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICIES:
The updated YKP policies can be found here. Please review them and if you have any questions reach out to Gahanna Program Administrator, Mandi Buchwald (mbuchwald@YWCAColumbus.org ), or Westerville Program Administrator, Laura Miller (lmiller@YWCAColumbus.org ).
At this time the organization of students within classrooms is still being discussed. We will make a decision based on the recommendations of health and safety experts and best practices. A decision on this will be reached on Friday, August 14, 2020.
Thank you again for your support of YWCA Kids Place programs and we look forward to seeing you and your child soon!

ON A MISSION TO INSPIRE LIFELONG LEARNING
YWCA Kids Place has more than 30 years of experience providing affordable, dependable, and high-quality year-round child care for families in the Gahanna and Westerville school districts. Our programs are conveniently located in your child’s elementary school to promote consistency and continuity for your child’s transition from school to Kids Place.
All of our programs are Step Up to Quality star-rated, using a comprehensive curriculum that includes choice-based learning, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), social-emotional development, and physical fitness. Additionally, in lock-step with the mission of YWCA Columbus, social action and advocacy are promoted by participating in community service projects that benefit non-profit programs in the community.
Our Program Focus
Choice Based Learning
Kids Place programs are planned with choice-based, student-led activities. Studies show that when students have some control over their learning they make more positive choices in the classroom due to increased confidence levels.
STEAM, which stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, is an all-encompassing curriculum structure that allows Kids Place programming to support students academically.
We encourage individual growth and empowerment through social emotional learning. Students learn to manage their emotions, set goals, express empathy, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Every day students engage in 30 plus minutes of physical activity. Whether playing gym games, exploring different sports, or having time to run and laugh with friends, they are given the time and space to have active fun to explore just being kids.
Highly Trained Staff
Our staff are highly trained to ODJFS safety and development standards, engage in regular professional development to ensure Step Up to Quality standards, and ten hours of additional professional development. Proudly, our directors and administration has over 185 years combined experience.
Your Child’s Safety is Our Priority
YWCA Kids Place takes the safety of the children we serve very seriously. We have worked with the Gahanna and Westerville school districts to ensure doors are locked during program times. We work with local police and fire departments to provide guidance in safety measures and training for staff, including emergency drills for students. YWCA Kids Place programs are licensed by and subject to inspections through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Additionally, prior to employment with YWCA Columbus, all Kids Place employees complete a background check, physical, drug screen, and education verification.
Thank you for your support.
