At YWCA Columbus, we have long believed we have a responsibility to serve those in need in our community. The Champion Companies believes the same. The firm owns and manages about 5,000 apartments across Central Ohio, where its leaders, brother and sister Brian Yeager and Michelle Yeager-Thornton, grew up. As their business has grown, the pair has made a concerted effort to give back to the area they call home.
Through The Champion Cares Foundation, Brian and Michelle set out to make a positive impact through philanthropy, rallying the company’s business partners, apartment residents, and team members. Champion invites apartment residents to round up their monthly rent by $1 to benefit the Foundation, and Champion then matches the gift. In 2021, the Foundation donated more than $2 million to worthwhile causes throughout Central Ohio, including YWCA Columbus.
The Champion Cares Foundation has regularly supported the YWCA Columbus Family Center with significant gifts that allow us to provide emergency housing and services to families experiencing homelessness. Champion team members also volunteer to make and serve two dinners a month at the Family Center, and chaperone weekly fun-filled field trips for the children in the Safe & Sound summer child care program.
YWCA would like to extend our gratitude to The Champion Cares Foundation for years of support and service to the women, children, and families of YWCA Columbus Family Center. We truly appreciate you for supporting a mission that strives for peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
