Your contribution supports opportunities for youth

Your gift supports the YWCA Columbus as we continue important advocacy work that directly impacts young people and their caregivers, as well as the education and empowerment of young people to create the next wave of social change agents.

As a proud supporter of the statewide Family Action Network, YWCA Columbus is empowering mothers, focusing on youth development, and sharing crucial insights about the policies and advocacy opportunities that would positively impact Ohio families.

  • 1,113 working parents and guardians, including 239 single-parent families, were supported by YWCA Kids Place programs during 2021.
  • 100+ children residing at the Family Center were enrolled in the Safe & Sound Program, which was provided at no cost to them thanks to the generous support of individual and corporate donations and grant funding.

In addition, at YWCA Columbus, we know that access to affordable and quality childcare impacts both the child and the family. In the midst of an ongoing pandemic, Ohio families are struggling more than ever with the rising cost of childcare, and women, in particular, are suffering under the acute “double shift,” as they downshift their careers – likely as a result of the complications surrounding school and childcare.

Consider: The average cost of center-based care in Ohio is more than $10,000 per year, rivaling that of college tuition. For many, this provides a significant challenge, especially single-parent households, which make up nearly 40% of all Central Ohio homes.

In Franklin County, nearly two-thirds of 3-4 -year-olds are not enrolled in preschool. These children are missing out on important socio-emotional development, and parents may be impacted by their ability to maintain consistent employment or full-time employment, as well. Affordable and high-quality childcare support educational outcomes for children, creating long-term impacts for their academic success and later workforce success.
