YWCA Columbus Statement on Housing For All Legislation

Categories: News, Social Justice, Statement

Columbus City Council has approved several initiatives since April aimed at addressing Columbus’ housing crisis, the most recent of which included five pieces of legislation passed last night, July 31.

YWCA Columbus is grateful for Council’s efforts to protect renters, provide financial support for Columbus families, and ensure every resident in our city has access to housing.

Specifically, two of the initiatives passed last night – legal representation for residents facing evictions and “Pay to Stay,” which allows residents time to secure rental assistance before an eviction judgment is placed on their record – were two policy actions recommended in YWCA Columbus’ Housing Justice Brief late last year.

As a direct service provider for families facing homelessness and an organization on a mission to ensure every individual can live in peace, freedom and dignity, YWCA Columbus is encouraged by these investments to help Columbus residents maintain and remain in their homes.
