A statement from YWCA Columbus President & CEO Christie Angel on the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade
This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion.
The impact of this decision extends far beyond the right to access abortion, with devastating consequences for future generations. YWCA Columbus will continue to challenge decisions that repeal human rights at every turn, especially ones that impact people at the intersection of race and gender oppression.
We affirm the right to bodily autonomy and access to reproductive healthcare, including safe, legal abortion for people of every gender. Our mission at YWCA Columbus remains the same—and abortion access is a fundamental pillar of our mission.
For now, abortion in Ohio remains legal, but we must keep it that way. We stand with our partners and ask you to join us in advocating for, donating to, and supporting the organizations doing this work. The fight is not over: Educate your network and call your elected officials.
