YWCA Columbus Condemns Recent Targeting of Nonprofits & Calls on Congress to End Government Shutdown
Through a recently issued memorandum, the current administration is trying to intimidate and silence nonprofits like ours—organizations that serve families, fight injustice, and lift up our communities. This abuse of power is an attack on families, as nonprofits fill critical unmet community needs, and a direct threat to our democracy.
But, YWCA Columbus, along with many of our nonprofit partners, refuse to be silenced and will continue to exercise our first amendment rights to denounce hate and injustice.
The risks to nonprofits are further amplified by the current government shutdown, which is destabilizing and disrupting Central Ohio families and the organizations that support them.
YWCA Columbus calls on Congress to end the shutdown now and get back to work for the families, children, and communities who cannot afford political games. Together with our nonprofit partners across the country, YWCA Columbus will continue to speak out, protect our community, and fight for peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
And, we are asking our community to join us—because when nonprofits are under attack, the people and causes we serve are under attack, too.
