YWCA Columbus Reacts to Abortion Ban Bill
Last week, Ohio House Republicans introduced a bill that would ban abortions and treat them as homicide, potentially impacting access to IVF and some forms of contraception, as well. The “Ohio Prenatal Equal Protection Act” would recognize personhood and grant legal protections from the moment of fertilization. This bill is a direct rejection of the will of Ohio voters who, in 2023, resoundingly voted in favor of enshrining abortion access in our state's constitution.
We also recognize this as a blatant attempt to challenge Ohio citizens' victory for bodily autonomy at the federal level at the U.S. Supreme Court, and we decry the use of Ohio families as political pawns. YWCA Columbus affirms every individual's right to make their own decision about pregnancy and abortion — without government interference.
